What is LASIK surgery?
LASIK (Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a type of laser eye surgery that is performed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism for patients who wish to decease or even eliminate their dependence on eyeglasses and contact lenses for seeing things at a distance. It was first performed in 1989 by an Ophthalmologist in Greece and introduced to American LASIK surgeons in 1990. Each year, hundreds of thousands of LASIK surgery procedures are performed in the United States. When performed by an experienced LASIK surgeon after a thorough examination, consultation and careful set of pretreatment diagnostic testing procedures, LASIK Eye Surgery has been found to be safe, effective and predictable.  

What happens during LASIK Surgery?
Typically, LASIK Surgery procedures are performed as an office procedure in the comfort and convenience of an excimer laser eye surgery suite. After the preparation where numbing eye drops are instilled into your eyes so that you are comfortable, the entire treatment takes about 5 to 7 minutes per eye or approximately 15-20 minutes for both eyes.
